Why We Chose It
Malliouhana (1984, Leon Roydon) was the clifftop property above Meads Bay that effectively created Anguilla's luxury tourism identity. Set on a bluff between two beaches (Meads Bay below, a secluded cove to the west), with the pool terrace view of Sandy Island and the Caribbean horizon — the most cited hotel view in Anguilla. Auberge Resorts acquired and refreshed in 2014, adding a spa, updating the pool complex (two infinity pools, one adults-only), and introducing Mini Explorers for children. The 48 rooms and villas each have terraces of remarkable proportions facing the water; the main building's ocean-view suites are recommended over the villas (beautiful but disconnected from the property's energy). Cafe Celeste (clifftop, contemporary Mediterranean, local fish and vegetables) has a view justifying the reservation regardless of the food — sunset from its terrace is a quintessential Anguilla experience.
