Why We Chose It
Hotel Jerome opened in 1889 when Aspen was the richest silver mining city in the world — designed in the Eastlake Victorian style with a facade of red brick and stone, it was the most technologically advanced hotel west of the Mississippi at the time (electric lights, indoor plumbing). The hotel survived the silver crash, was the staging ground for the founding of the Aspen skiing industry in the 1940s, and was completely renovated in 2012 under Auberge Resorts to restore its Victorian grandeur. The J-Bar, Aspen's legendary watering hole, is a genuine local institution. The restaurant, Prospect, is excellent for American breakfast and dinner.
