One of Aspen's most celebrated on-mountain lunch spots — an alpine hut at the top of Aspen Highlands (ski-in only, no road access) serving fondue, raclette, and Champagne poured in the ski boot at noon, with a raucous après scene that continues until last lift.
Why It Belongs on the List
Cloud Nine is an Aspen legend and must not be missed — a small Swiss-style alpine bistro at 10,200 feet at the top of Aspen Highlands, accessible only by skiing down from the Loge Peak chairlift. There is no road. At noon daily (ski season only), a 30-second Champagne shower involving the entire dining room and the staff erupts — it is absolutely absurd and absolutely wonderful. The food is excellent: cheese fondue, raclette, charcuterie, Austrian-influenced ski lodge fare. Reservations are available but a spot at the bar is also perfectly good. Dress in ski clothes — you ski in and ski out.
