La Cevichería

Casual

Getaway Unpacked Edit

San Diego's most beloved restaurant — Anthony Bourdain called it "as good as it gets"; fresh ceviche and cóctel de camarones in a corner colonial house. Always a queue; arrive early or book ahead.

Why It Belongs on the List

La Cevichería in San Diego was made internationally famous when Anthony Bourdain visited on Parts Unknown and described the ceviche as among the finest he had eaten anywhere. A corner colonial house with a few tables inside and on the street; the menu is focused on fresh seafood — ceviche of fish, shrimp cocktail (cóctel de camarones) in the Colombian style, and pulpo. The freshness of the seafood is extraordinary; the prices are modest; and the atmosphere is casual and completely authentic. Always busy; arrive at opening (12pm) or book ahead.
