Boone Hall has been a working farm since 1681 and the Avenue of Oaks — 88 live oaks planted in two rows in 1743 — is spectacular. The slave quarters are preserved and interpreted with more care than at most plantation sites; the Gullah culture presentations in the cotton gin house are substantive. A more complete and more honest plantation experience than most comparable destinations in the region.
