Why We Chose It
Amanera is the finest hotel in the Dominican Republic — Aman's first (and still only) Caribbean property, occupying a 2,000-acre private reserve on a clifftop above Playa Grande on the north Atlantic coast, about 30 minutes from the Cabarete area. The 25 casitas are individual pavilion structures designed by Jean-Michel Gathy in a modernist-tropical idiom, each with a private pool and ocean views. The beach — Playa Grande — is reached only by funicular from the clifftop and is among the most beautiful and least crowded in the country. The Playa Grande Golf Course (an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones course that runs along the clifftop with ocean views on every hole) is included in the room rate. The service-to-guest ratio is Aman standard: effectively one staff per guest. The most expensive and remarkable hotel experience available in the Dominican Republic.
