Getaway Unpacked Edit

MICHELIN Key and Best Hotel in Scotland 2025 (Good Hotel Guide): a 17th-century baroque mansion in 20 acres of parkland and gardens, with 23 opulent individually designed rooms, Rhubarb restaurant (open all day), and the romantic atmosphere of a private country house — 5 minutes from Holyroodhouse.

Why We Chose It

Prestonfield House was awarded a MICHELIN Key for 2025 and named Best Hotel in Scotland by the Good Hotel Guide — a 17th-century baroque mansion in 20 acres of parkland at the foot of Arthur's Seat, just 5 minutes from the Holyrood end of the Royal Mile. Owner James Thomson has decorated it in his own exuberant style: jewel tones, draped fabrics, antique furnishings, and statement art — warm, eccentric, and wholly personal. 23 rooms and suites, each individually designed. Rhubarb restaurant (open all day) serves refined Scottish cuisine in a series of richly decorated rooms. Adults-only. Peacocks roam the grounds. The most truly extraordinary place to stay in Edinburgh.
