Nice's extraordinary dual art legacy — the dedicated Matisse Museum in a 17th-century Genoese villa, and MAMAC's world-class collection of modern and contemporary art.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
Henri Matisse spent much of his life in Nice and the Musée Matisse holds the world's most comprehensive collection of his work — paintings, drawings, bronzes, and the astonishing cut-out series — in a beautiful Roman-period villa in Cimiez. A 10-minute bus ride from the center. MAMAC in the center of Nice has exceptional holdings of New Realism and American Pop Art including Niki de Saint Phalle, Yves Klein, and Andy Warhol. Both are free on the first Sunday of the month.
