Why We Chose It
Goldeneye is the most historically significant resort property in Jamaica — the estate where Ian Fleming built a modest house in 1946 and spent every winter writing one James Bond novel per year until his death in 1964. Chris Blackwell (founder of Island Records, the man who signed Bob Marley and brought reggae to the world) eventually acquired the property and developed it as the finest understated luxury resort in Jamaica — a collection of private villas and beach huts set in lush gardens around Fleming's lagoon and a private beach. The Bond history is well-documented and woven throughout the property. The Bizot Bar (named for Fleming's editor) serves good rum cocktails. The snorkeling off the private beach is excellent. Minimum stays apply in peak season.
