Strawberry Hill is Chris Blackwell's (Island Outpost) masterpiece above Kingston — a former 18th-century coffee estate at 3,100 feet in the Blue Mountains with 12 individual Georgian-style white-clapboard villas set in terraced gardens. The views of Kingston and the Caribbean coast are extraordinary — best in the early morning when the city is visible below a thin layer of cloud. The temperatures here are 15–20°F cooler than the coast (sweater weather year-round in the evenings). The coffee, grown on the estate and served at breakfast, is among the finest Blue Mountain single-origin available. Bob Marley recuperated here after a 1976 assassination attempt. The overall atmosphere — cool mountain air, birdsong, misty gardens — is unlike anywhere else in Jamaica.
