Hollow stalks 25 meters high that groan and click in the wind. Walk through slowly.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is a short path — perhaps 500 meters — but the density and height of the stalks create an otherworldly atmosphere. The sound it makes in the wind was included in Japan's list of 100 Soundscapes to Preserve. Go early morning (7–8am) — it's the only time it isn't crowded.
