Ten thousand vermilion torii gates winding 4km up a cedar mountain. Arrive before 6am.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of Japan's most photographed sites — but arrive before 6am and the lower gates are nearly empty. The upper trails, which most visitors never reach, are cedar forest and small shrines in complete silence. Allow 2–3 hours for the full circuit.
