Il Sereno

Torno · Patricia Urquiola Design · CNT Gold List 2024 · Michelin-Starred Restaurant

Getaway Unpacked Edit

The premier design hotel on Lake Como — all 40 suites by Patricia Urquiola face the lake, with a 60-foot infinity pool suspended over the water, a full-service spa in a former boathouse, and a Michelin-starred restaurant. CNT Gold List 2024 and Readers' Choice nine years running.

Why We Chose It

Il Sereno redefined modern luxury on Lake Como when it opened in Torno in 2016 — the first property on the lake designed by a world-renowned architect (Spanish starchitect Patricia Urquiola, a longtime Milan resident). All 40 suites face the lake and mountains with private furnished terraces and custom Urquiola-designed furniture; a giant penthouse tops the building. The 60-foot freshwater infinity pool is suspended over Lake Como; the full-service spa occupies a converted former boathouse; the restaurant Il Sereno al Lago holds a Michelin star. Guests are met by a custom-built wooden Ernesto Riva boat — one of three hotel vessels. The garden features 183 plant varieties; a vertical garden by Patrick Blanc adorns the lobby. CNT Gold List 2024, Hot List 2017, Readers' Choice 2017–2025.
