Why We Chose It
The Venetian opened in 1999 on the site of the demolished Sands Hotel (where the Rat Pack famously performed) and immediately set the record for largest hotel in the world at the time of opening — a record the connected Palazzo expansion would later extend. The resort's commitment to its Venice theme is the most total on the Strip: the Doge's Palace facade (at 1/3 scale), the indoor Grand Canal with working gondolas (rowed by singing gondoliers), the Rialto Bridge replica, the cobblestone St. Mark's Square, and the 14-foot ceiling paintings throughout the resort collectively create the most immersive single environment in Las Vegas. The standard suite (650 square feet minimum, divided into sleeping area and sunken living room) is the answer to the question 'which Strip resort has the best room for the money at the midrange?' — the suite format means every room has a living room, and the Venetian's square footage at standard rates is unmatched.
