The Met is one of the world's greatest encyclopedic art museums, with over 2 million works spanning 5,000 years across 2 million square feet. The Egyptian Temple of Dendur, the European paintings galleries (Vermeer, Rembrandt, the Impressionists), the American Wing, the rooftop garden with Central Park views, and the Arms and Armor halls are essential. The Met Cloisters in upper Manhattan houses the medieval collection in a separate building. Plan 4–6 hours minimum and don't try to see everything in one visit.
