Auberge du Soleil is the founding property of the Auberge Resorts Collection and the hotel that established Napa Valley as a luxury travel destination — opened in 1981 as a restaurant in a converted olive grove above Rutherford, it evolved into a 50-room resort that remains the gold standard for valley views. The restaurant terrace at sunset — looking south down the valley with the Mayacamas Mountains to the west and Napa River vineyards in the foreground — is one of the great outdoor dining settings in California.
