Indian Springs is the most distinctively Californian resort in Napa Valley — operating since 1861 on the site of ancient volcanic hot springs that made Calistoga the first American spa destination. The mineral-rich mud bath and hot springs treatment program is the finest available in the valley: a progression of volcanic ash mud bath, mineral-water soak, steam room, and blanket wrap that leaves you more relaxed than you thought possible. The 1913 concrete geothermal pool (fed by the same volcanic springs, maintained at around 92°F year-round) is one of the great outdoor swimming experiences in California. The Mission Revival bungalows and casitas are beautifully maintained. Sam's Social Club is an excellent casual restaurant. The most unique accommodation in Napa at a fraction of the price of Yountville equivalents.
