Every Friday evening, the small fishing village of Anse La Raye (between Marigot Bay and Soufrière on the west coast) closes its main street and transforms into the island's best and most authentic street food festival. Fishermen sell the day's catch grilled right there: whole snapper, mahi-mahi, lobster, crayfish, with coal pots smoking up and down the street. Accras (salt fish fritters with local hot sauce), barbecued chicken, fried plantain, Piton beer, and local rum punch. Prices are almost nothing by Caribbean standards. The crowd is entirely local with a handful of in-the-know visitors. This is the real St. Lucia. Drive there, eat with your hands, stay for the music. One of the Caribbean's great regular food events.
