Established in 1816, the Royal Botanic Garden wraps along the harbor foreshore from the Opera House toward Farm Cove. It's free to enter, beautifully maintained, and home to an enormous gray-headed flying fox colony that takes to the skies at dusk in their thousands. The garden hosts events, guided walks, and harborside picnic lawns with Opera House views. Entry from the Opera House forecourt or Mrs Macquaries Road.
