The Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) holds the accumulated treasures of the Habsburg dynasty — a premier collection ever assembled. The Bruegel room is the most important concentration of Pieter Bruegel the Elder's work in the world. Vermeer, Raphael, Dürer, Titian, Caravaggio, and Rembrandt fill the other galleries. Benvenuto Cellini's Saliera (golden salt cellar, 1543) is in the Kunstkammer. The building itself — a twin to the Naturhistorisches Museum across Maria-Theresien-Platz — is an architectural masterpiece. Allow half a day minimum.
