The medieval Republic of Ragusa (independent 1358–1808), whose 2km of 15th-century city walls enclose the most completely preserved Gothic-Renaissance-Baroque urban fabric in the Mediterranean. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Stradun limestone main street, the Rector's Palace, the Franciscan Monastery with its Romanesque cloister and the third-oldest pharmacy in the world (still operating since 1317), and the old port with boat service to Lokrum Island.
