The heart of it all — a remarkably well-preserved Victorian silver-mining grid of streets anchored by the Hotel Jerome, the Wheeler Opera House (1889), and the gondola base at Ajax (Aspen Mountain). The pedestrian core on Mill, Galena, and Cooper streets is dense with restaurants, galleries, and boutiques that would not look out of place in a major city.
